Fall Glimpse

Walking early in the morning,
early enough to be fog laden
and warbler and wren frisky
extra dewy from a moist summer
I tried to imagine Fall’s colors
among  ash, birch, oak and maple.

Just a glimpse I thought
would be handy.
A sample of a mountain trip perhaps.
And I could already see yellow and ochre
trim edging the weaker trees’ boughs  -

and then for a hadron instant the trees
and sparkled limbs collapsed to a teardrop
and spiral of approaching hues.

I shook my head astounded
heard the low turkeys’ cackle callings
while a black crow alighted in
shaking the poplar as sure as the breeze.

I knew then it was no ruse -
the colors were sure to be of Every’s hues.

There are street grocers in Toronto everywhere. We have already featured the Roncesvalles shops of Late Winter. But I was walking in the East end along Danforth and then along Queen and here are some of the beauties I found along the way. They are beauties because they a)taste wonderful and b)come at a price that beats just about every supermarket. No small matter in these price-rising daze.

Zucchini Squash to do battle with large Beefstake tomatoes – and your salad and palate will be the clear winners! Juicy and tasty to say the least.

Lemons always add zip to a cool refreshing cup of ice water – and try this, add a slice of arange juice to the mix and – it is a  fragrant delight.

Finally the apples were practically slicing themselves before my eyes at a Queen Street Fruit store, now just add cinnamon and a touch of sugar and cream delight.

The Fruits Today

he says try another size
she says these look good
turning one than another
in her hands oblivious of a watching eye
- it is  Spring time in the market
of small and and large delights.

High Park and all of Toronto got to finally indulge in double digit Spring warmth. And the trees responded with bright red and subtle yellow-green buds – making a walk and picture taking a pleasure. Here is what I saw:

Plunge to the Depths

It is the surface ripples and forms
that draw attention outward and around
to a week ago rippled by snowstorms
alighting without a scintilla of wind skirmish,

yet now  we see  the plates
the plates that you and eyes
take for not-impartial colored fates
hanging like a jazz riff raff upon

the surface entangled and reflecting
depth yet to be discovered
yet another time for risking

a lure of ever wider comprehension
only to skim along another liquid tiling
enchanted with all its wonder
above and in depth below.

The Snow Graces Arrived

In the tatter and helter skelter of exams
Fall arrived on campus in the grace of snow
Adding pastels to golden and crimson moods
A respite for those indigo hued.

Like shooting starts of tempting ambition
Heard in greetings warm, darting, nuanced
Hardly a question more a moment underestimated
But for the glimpse of colors turning as if by blush.

Where do thee go my loves ?
Following the bronze to ochre vein enflamed
Or seek razor risks lined, gilded and rewarded
Or flap with the winds of tints caressing
So sweet suffuse for gathering days.

Into the pool, the pool of changing times
where I , you, we and me
collect in causemic collaboration
sheer surely for the fun of being with thee.

Into the pool, the pool of many ripples
where no one stops without a whim
or glances to find more than a reverie,
A pad, a stalk, or a fount of whats to be.

Into the pool, the pool of redbrick reason
where cultured lines converge indisputably
such that all conclude irrefutably
there can be no utter wave.

And here is that line of thought
without the need of new complexion
as obvious as our leaves and blades of grass.

For we to see beyond the radius of
these small powderings will require
a new aim, a new priority, a new bore.

It is somewhere here …. in the snow wilds
